Tätä kaikkea on tiededokumentti Borrelioosin uhrit.
Palkittu dokumentti pureutuu punkin puremasta alkunsa saamaan Lymen tautiin eli borrelioosiin.
Borrelioosi on kuitenkin yksi aikamme nopeimmin leviävistä epidemioista. Mikä tähän on syynä? Määräävätkö globaalit lääkefirmat tutkimustyön resursoinnin, jonka seuraukset näkyvät vinoutumina terveydenhoitojärjestelmässä - ja mikä karmeinta - karuina ihmiskohtaloina. Andy Abrahams Wilsonin dokumentti on kaunistelematonta katsottavaa.

NEW, UPDATED AND RE-EDITED DVD JUST RELEASED
uos_dvd_3d_smThe newly re-edited, updated, television version of UNDER OUR SKIN has just been released and is now available. Many people have asked if we would edit a shortened version of the film--and we did, cutting more than 15 minutes. Now at 86 minutes, we believe the film is leaner and packs an even more powerful punch. We've also added important character and IDSA updates at the end of the film, and we've added more than ten minutes of bonus, never-seen-before footage on the DVD. In addition to French, Spanish and English subtitles, we've just added German, after so many requests from Germany. So, if you miss this updated version on TV (and more on that below), you now have a chance to watch it on DVD.

UNDER OUR SKIN SUMMER ANGELS
connie_jenny_lgJenny Clark (on right) was misdiagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis for many years before receiving a Lyme diagnosis. Connie Dickey (on left) was misdiagnosed with Fibromyalgia for 10 years, and finally diagnosed with Lyme disease. Their journey back to health, like so many others, consisted of multiple doctors out of state. Now they share a passion for raising awareness of Lyme disease in their home state of Tennessee, so that others won't have to suffer as they have. To kick off their efforts this spring, they decided to host a screening of UNDER OUR SKIN at the Regal Cinema in Knoxville. It was a huge success, drawing a crowd of over 200, many of which learned about Lyme disease for the first time.
Jenny and Connie are a prime example of how a screening of UNDER OUR SKIN can be transformed into an educational campaign for an entire community. They enthusiastically and aggressively reached out to their local print and television media, public officials, hospitals and places of worship. They obtained interviews on the three main television stations in their area, getting articles written in local newspapers, and advertising on local talk radio. They energized local churches to help get the word out, and gave a copy of the film to their congressman, meeting with his chief of staff several times. As a result of the screening, Jenny and Connie formed the first Lyme support group in the Knoxville area with over 20 people in attendance at the first meeting. They plan to have another screening of UNDER OUR SKIN in the Fall, using the documentary as a continuing opportunity to galvanize support and spread awareness.

OTHER OPEN EYE PICTURES NEWS
tg-still_memorial_circle_smOpen Eye Pictures is busy in various phases of production and post-production on several projects. THE GROVE, which tells the story of the National AIDS Memorial in San Francisco, challenges us with the question of what it means to be a national memorial for a disease that killed over 500,000 Americans--more than the number that died in all the U.S. wars in the 20th Century. The film premiered at Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in April and will have a PBS broadcast later this year or next. We've also been partially funded to create a mobile application, called iMemorial, which gives users the opportunity to share personal tributes through their smart phones and use augmented reality to connect a person to a place.
th-sisterhoodSpeaking of memorial, Open Eye Pictures is also beginning production on a new project, THREADS, a holocaust story about secrets, sisterhood and survival. THREADS follows a daughter's search for her mother's hidden Holocaust past, leading her to a community of women who clung to life and each other by a thread. We begin our first production trip to Berlin and Poland this week.

UNDER OUR SKIN: Wrap-up and follow-up
We're still getting under their skin and we're not letting up!
Last month's Lyme Disease Awareness Month kept us busy at Open Eye Pictures with hundreds of TV and community screenings worldwide. We're noticing in particular a large uptick of activity in Australia, where more and more people are getting diagnosed and little exists in terms of awareness and treatment.
Hundreds of worldwide Lyme rallies took place throughout the globe and we put out a call for footage from these protests, offering a prize for "best footage"; note that we've extended the deadline to June 7th! Also in May, Netflix unfortunately finished its contract with UNDER OUR SKIN, but the film is still viewable on demand on Amazon, SnagFilms and Hulu. If you're in Kentucky, Iowa and parts of Ohio, Virginia and Pennsylvania, public television stations will be broadcasting the film tonight and throughout the month. And DVDs are always available—with an added bonus of extra footage, updates and foreign language subtitles.
As a reminder, our Affiliate Program allows you to promote UNDER OUR SKIN and generate revenue in the process. Last month we also began production on UNDER OUR SKIN 2, the film follow-up, returning to characters, issues and controversies from the original film. This will take time as we raise production funds. If you'd like to support us, your tax-deductible contributions will go a long way towards helping the movement and keeping-up the presssure for lasting change.
With the launch of our new iPhone app Tributopia (see below) we now have a way to honor and remember those who have passed away from Lyme disease. Eventually this can become a global database to prove the lethalness of a disease that continues to be overlooked as people lose their lives and livelihoods.

The production team for "Under Our Skin" maintained a blog for awhile that generated some very fascinating articles. Hopefully you didn't miss the exciting interview that occurred back in February of 2007 in the retired doctor's home in Montana. Read the following excerpt:
"Just as we began filming, there was a pounding on the door, and we found ourselves facing someone who turned out to be a top researcher at the nearby Rocky Mountain Laboratories, a biolevel-4 NIH research facility. Standing on the porch, our uninvited guest said, “I’ve been told that I need to supervise this interview. This comes from the highest levels. There are things that Willy can’t talk about.”

It includes more interesting articles on the making of the film, press and Headline news as the film was released; included are inside stories about the wide reception (Dr. Oz on Oprah) and incredible recognition given to chronic Lyme disease as a result.
